DOUBLE SPRINGS — Kaylee Brummett and Macy Butler combined to make seven 3-pointers and score 27 points, leading Addison to the Winston County Basketball Tournament championship on Saturday at Double Springs.
Addison made 11 free throws in the final quarter, edging Winston County 47-43 for the championship.
The top seeded Bulldogs led 12-8 after the opening quarter, but Winston County rallied to take a 23-20 halftime lead. The Yellow Jackets held a slim 35-34 lead going into the final quarter.
Addison trailed by seven points with five minutes remaining before closing the game on a 13-2 run.
Brummett made three 3-pointers and led Addison (18-2) with 14 points. She also made four clutch free throws in the final quarter. Butler made four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points, Callie Crider added 10 points, all in the second half, both Savannah Manley and Amylia Cleghorn had four points and Bracie Rodgers had one point.
For Winston County (11-10), the second seed, Mackenzie Blackwood had 15 points, Makayla Lindsey and Bella Wakefield each had eight points, Olivia Wright and Emily Holt each had four points and both Brenna Wakefield and Jazzy Eagle added two.
Addison plays at Oakman on Tuesday and hosts Falkville on Thursday.
Winston County plays at Vinemont on Tuesday, at Curry on Thursday and closes out the regular season at home against Sumiton Christian on Friday.
Winston County 41, Addison 35
Cade Taylor scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, leading Winston County to the Winston County Basketball Tournament championship with a 41-35 victory over top seeded Addison on Saturday night.
Addison led through the first half. The Bulldogs (11-12) held a 10-6 advantage after the opening quarter and 18-16 at the half. Winston County outscored Addison 25-17 in the second half behind Taylor, who was 8 of 10 at the free throws line over the final two quarters.
The second seeded Yellow Jackets (11-7) led 29-27 after three quarters.
Addison got as close as two points at 37-35 with 1:15 left in the game after a Jesse Brock 3-pointer of the night. Winston County’s Taylor made four free throws in the final minute to seal the Yellow Jackets’ win.
Brooks Bonds had 10 points for Winston County, Jacob Hill added five, Austin Owens put in four and Sy Blanton added two.
For Addison, Logan Wilkins had 14 points, Cannon Hiller had 10, Xavier Barley had four and both Eli Howse and Brock added three.
