CORDOVA — Cordova fell behind early and was never able to make up the deficit in a 28-21 loss to Hudson-Kerby Field on Friday night.
Quarterback Cody Headrick had a great game for the Blue Devils, completing 12 of 20 passes for three touchdowns and an interception. Adam O’Rear, Corea Killings and Cade Naramore each caught touchdown passes.
Wenonah led the game 21-0 with 1:32 left in the first half. Cordova got on the scoreboard with 16 seconds left until halftime on a 12-yard pass from Headrick to O’Rear.
The Dragons took a 21-6 lead into the half.
Cordova cut the gap to 21-14 with 5:10 left in the third quarter on a 45-yard strike from Headrick to Killings. Headrick’s 2-point conversion pulled the Devils within seven points.
The Dragons got the game-deciding points with 4:36 left in the game on a touchdown set up by a fake punt that put Wenonah in scoring position. Kameron Bester went in from 9 yards out to put the Dragons up by two touchdowns.
Cordova retaliated with its final score with 4:07 left on Headrick’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Naramore, making the score 28-21. The Blue Devils’ last possession ended with an interception.
Jack Gable led Cordova’s rushing game, picking up 26 yards on 12 carries. Headrick rushed four times for 11 yards.
Cordova (1-5, 0-4) travels to Carver for another region game next week.
