Susan Moore beats Carbon Hill in battle of Bulldogs


CARBON HILL — Carbon Hill looked to be in for a battle with Susan Moore with the team locked in a tie after the first quarter on Friday night.

Looks can be deceiving.

Susan Moore reeled off 36 unanswered points over the final three quarters for a 43-7 win at G.W. Keith Stadium.

Carbon Hill has now been outscored 73-15 in back-to-back losses to Cordova and Susan Moore.

The visiting Bulldogs struck first against Carbon Hill, getting a two-yard run from Zachary Smith. Carbon Hill notched the score at 7-7 following a six-yard run by Kory McGough with 4:43 left in the opening quarter. Susan Moore put the game away with three touchdowns over the final seven minutes of the second quarter.

Smith scored on a 44-yard run, Ramon Maldonado scored on an 11-yard run and Derek Doty scored from three yards out to put Susan Moore on top 29-7 with 19 seconds left in the half. The final score was set up by an interception and a 40-yard pass down to the Carbon Hill 3-yard line.

Susan Moore added its final two touchdowns in the third quarter, on a 63-yard run by Maldonado and a seven-yard touchdown run by Camden Lackey.

Carbon Hill (1-2, 0-1) plays at Vinemont next week.

Susan Moore, which won 10 games last year, improved to
