Snow blankets Jasper in 1940

Posted

Snow plows clear Jasper's 18th Street in this January 1940 photo taken by Luis Rushing. Walker County was covered in between 14 and 17 inches of snow on Jan. 27, 1940. The snow remained on the ground for 10 days and local creeks and rivers froze as temperatures dipped below zero for a portion of each day.
