Schools closing early due to the weather

Tornado watch in effect in Walker County until 4 p.m.

Local schools are announcing they are closing schools early due to the severe weather today.  A tornado watch is in effect for Walker County until 4 p.m.

All Walker County School System schools are closing at noon due to the weather.

Due to the possibility of inclement weather, the Jasper City Schools will dismiss today at 12 p.m. Buses will run at that time. All after-school activities are also cancelled.

Sumiton Christian School announced in advance it would dismiss early at noon today out of caution for impending severe weather. Elementary students will be served lunch before dismissal. Junior high and high school students will be released before lunch.

All Bevill State Community College campuses will close at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, for students, faculty, and staff due to the threat of severe weather in the service area. Finals scheduled after the time of closure will be rescheduled for Thursday, May 6, at the same time. At this time, the College plans to reopen and for finals to resume in-person on Wednesday, May 5.
