Roy W. Smith, 93, of Oakman, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at his residence.
Graveside services will be Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Gray Cemetery. The Rev. James Russom will officiate.
Roy W. Smith was born on April 13, 1928, to Attley and Della Smith in America, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Edith “Nell” Brunner on Sept. 26, 1947, and had three daughters. Together they answered God’s call to the mission field and prepared at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon graduation in 1970, they ministered to the Quechan Indians in Winterhaven, California, through 1975. They returned to Alabama and served as pastors in several churches until the death of Nell in 1987. Roy met Janie “Sue” Franklin and they married in November 1989. Sue joined Ray as he continued to serve in pastoral ministry and in retirement at their local church, Parrish Church of the Nazarene.
Roy is survived by his wife, Janie Sue Smith; three daughters, Susan Theresa Russom (James), Sherree Denise Kiser (Jock) and Spring Lynn Key (Randy); 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
