Jordon Robertson threw three touchdown passes to lead the Sumiton Christian Eagles to a 32-13 region road win over Coosa Christian on Friday night.
The win was No. 225 for Sumiton Christian coach David Powell, who is in his second season with the Eagles.
After falling behind 7-0 early in the game, Sumiton Christian took the lead on a Robertson 35-yard touchdown pass to Ashton McClendon. Christian Hyche added the 2-point conversion run for an 8-7 lead at the 4:11 mark of the first quarter.
The Eagles (5-3, 3-2) scored again just before the half on Robertson’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Kannen DeFoor. Hyche again added the conversion run to push Sumiton Christian’s lead to 16-7.
Robertson’s third touchdown pass went to Eli Moon from 24 yards out. Hyche’s conversion put the Eagles up 24-7 with 8:37 left in the third quarter. After Coosa Christian cut the gap to 24-13, the Eagles capped the scoring with 9:27 left in the game on a DeFoor touchdown run that was set up by a Tyler Ingle interception. Moon added the 2-point conversion to make the score 32-13.
Robertson completed 10 of 17 passes for 160 yards and the three touchdowns. Moon rushed 15 times for 123 yards.
The Eagles host region leader Valley Head next week.
