Robert Clarence “Bobby” Hamrick, made his final flight Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the age of 82.
Family will be receiving friends Saturday, April 2, 2022, from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. David Byrd will officiate.
Bobby worked at the Jasper Theatre as an usher from 1954-1956, and manager of the Walker County Airport from 1956-1958. After graduating Walker High School in 1958, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was part of Strategic Air Command (SAC). After leaving the Air Force in 1962, he began working at Hayes Aircraft Company, where he was support equipment technical writer for the Air Force and Navy, and technical writer for the Saturn V moon rocket. During this time, he was Mason Past Master at York Lodge 211.
Beginning in 1971, Bobby began a career following his true passion for flying as a flight instructor at Walker County Airport and Commander in the Civil Air Patrol. He joined Drummond Company, Inc., in 1972, where he worked for 32 years as pilot and chief pilot flying various types of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters across North and South America. He retired in 2004 to become Chief Lawn Mower Operator and Lightsaber Opponent to grandson Jack. Bobby was loved by many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eulene Stewart Hamrick; and sisters, Peggy Williams and Jimmie Sherer.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; sons, David and Scott (Dustie); grandson, Jack Hamrick; sister, Shirley Sargent; and many loving nieces and nephews.
