Prep Volleyball: No. 1 Jasper sweeps home tri-match

Jasper picked up a pair of lopsided wins over county competition at the Carl Cannon Coliseum on Tuesday, beating Dora and Cordova in a tri-match.
The Vikings — ranked No. 1 in Class 5A — won their area match with Dora (25-4, 25-2, 25-9) and defeated Cordova (25-3, 25-9). Dora also earned a 25-22, 16-25, 16-14 win over Cordova.
Jasper (14-2) had 36 aces in the tri-match.
McKinley Ferguson had 15 aces and seven kills, Molly Kate Atkins had 10 aces and six assists, Mia Griffin had 10 kills, Alex Oliver had six kills, Cagejia Hosey had six aces, Temperance Chatman had five aces and Abby Trotter had four digs.
The Vikings have won seven straight matches since losing to Class 7A powers McGill-Toolen and Bob Jones in Hoover earlier this month.
Jasper won a tri-match on Thursday, beating Florence (25-15, 25-14), Lawrence County (25-18, 25-19) and St. John Paul II (25-20, 25-10).
Oliver had 24 kills and five aces, both Ferguson and Griffin had 16 kills, Morgan McClendon had 14 kills, Shelton had five kills and five blocks, Chatman had four aces and 13 digs, Atkins had 55 assists and seven aces and Trotter had 31 digs.
Jasper plays in the HeffStrong Tournament in Hoover on Saturday.
Carbon Hill splits matches at Hartselle
Carbon Hill split a tri-match at Hartselle on Tuesday, losing to the host team and beating Austin.
Against Hartselle, the No. 5 team in Class 6A, Carbon Hill won the opening set before dropping the next two in a 16-25, 25-19, 15-7 loss to the Tigers. The Bulldogs — the No. 1 team in Class 3A — defeated Austin 25-7, 25-14, improving their record to 18-3.
On the day, Alyssa Dutton had 19 kills, 18 digs, six aces and two blocks, Grayson Evans had 11 kills, seven digs, four blocks, one ace and one assist, Lacey Evans had 24 assists, eight digs, five kills and three aces, Hannah Dutton had 14 digs, four kills and three aces, Sidney Keeton had 14 assists, three digs and an ace, Abby Martin added four digs, two kills, two blocks and two aces and Karlie Ratliff had 17 digs, one kill and one ace.
Carbon Hill begins play in the Walker County Volleyball Tournament on Thursday.
The Bulldogs play Curry at 3 pm. and Cordova at 4 p.m. at Oakman High School.
Pool play continues on Saturday with the single-elimination tournament starting at 2 p.m.
