TUSCALOOSA — Oakman is one win away from a trip to the State Softball Tournament.
The Wildcats beat the competition and the elements to start 2-0 at the West Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa on Thursday.
In a day filled with weather delays and consistent rain, Oakman continued its recent hot streak.
Oakman defeated Piedmont 6-3 in its Class 3A opener and followed with 5-4 walk-off victory over Glencoe.
The Wildcats enter today just one win away from a spot in the State Softball Tournament set for next week in Montgomery.
The top two qualifiers from each regional tournament advance to the state tournament.
Oakman plays the J.B. Pennington-Pleasant Valley winner at 9 a.m. today.
In Class 4A, Cordova went 1-1 on Thursday. The Blue Devils fell to Hokes Bluff 6-4 in the opener and bounced back with a 13-1 rout of Handley in an elimination game.
Curry was eliminated on Thursday after losing its first two games. The Yellow Jackets fell to White Plains 5-4 and lost to Ashville 5-4.
In Class 1A, Meek took down Marion County 8-6 in its opener while Lynn fell to Falkville 8-1.
Meek takes on Appalachian today while Lynn battles Coosa Christian in an elimination game.
