Prep Basketball: Jasper  completes season sweep of Haleyville


Jasper closed out a season sweep of Haleyville on Tuesday, dominating the Lions from the start in a 56-37 win at Carl Cannon Coliseum.
The Vikings bounced back from a disappointing one-point loss to Hayden on Friday with a strong defensive effort that allowed Haleyville just 12 first-half points.
Jasper, which defeated the Lions 60-50 on the road in early December, jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the early going. Both Kaden Shelton and Antione Harris made 3-pointers in the opening quarter. Harris finished with seven points in the period and Shelton made a shot at the buzzer to put the Vikings up 15-6 going into the second.
Haleyville, which made just five shots in the first half, trailed 23-12 at the half. Jasper extended its lead in the third quarter behind Trinity Epps, who had 12 of his 14 points in the period. Garrett Pschirer added a 3-pointer and the Vikings took a comfortable 40-24 lead into the final quarter.
For Jasper (10-9), Epps led the way with 14 points, Antione Harris had 12, Anthony Harris added seven, Shelton had five, EJ Colbert, John David Harrell and Brent Geeter each had four, Pschirer added three and Denzel Chatman had two.
Clay Blanton had 14 points for Haleyville (7-14)
Jasper’s next three games are on the road. The Vikings play at Carver today, Cullman on Friday and Russellville on Saturday. The next home game comes against area foe Corner on Tuesday.

Jasper 35, Haleyville 24
Idaysia Mercer had 16 points and Jasper routed Haleyville 35-24 on Tuesday for its 13th win of the season.
Mercer had seven first-quarter points as Jasper jumped out to a 14-2 lead after a quarter of play. The Vikings led 21-10 at the half and outscored Haleyville 14-6 in the third quarter for a 35-16 lead going into the final quarter.
With a running clock, the Vikings didn’t score in the final quarter. For the Vikings (13-9), Alex Oliver had six points, both Kelsey Shelton and Jordan Gilbert had five points, Hallie Harrell added two and Cagejia Hosey scored a point. Catherine Aldridge had eight points for Haleyville (7-10).
Jasper plays at Cullman on Friday.
