CURRY — Dora’s Zharia Hubbard finished two rebounds short of a triple-double on Saturday as the Bulldogs advanced to the winner’s bracket of the Curry Thanksgiving Tournament.
Dora was one of three Walker County teams to win their tournament opener at Curry High School. Dora defeated Winston County 54-41, Carbon Hill beat Corner 40-20 and Curry knocked off Lynn 47-34. In the other first-round game, Meek defeated Oak Grove 59-21.
The three-day tournament continues on Monday with four games starting at 3 p.m.
On Saturday, Hubbard nearly outscored Winston County by herself, putting in 39 points to go along with 10 steals and eight rebounds. The Bulldogs led 26-19 at the half and pulled away in the third quarter, taking a 41-26 lead into the fourth.
For Dora (4-0), Rukia Chapel added six points. Winston County’s Izzy Cofer had 22 points.
Carbon Hill played the early game on Saturday. The Bulldogs took control in the first quarter, outscoring Corner 19-3. Carbon Hill (4-1) led 28-8 at the half.
Ally Martin had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Santana Clark had seven points and Kaylee Edwards had six points and seven steals for the Bulldogs.
In the final game of the day, Curry (2-2) had three players score in double figures against Lynn. The Yellow Jackets led 14-6 after the first quarter and 28-15 at the half. Cam Wright made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, Emma Martin had 11 and Allie Downs added 10.
For Lynn, Phebe Burkett had 10 points and Ashley Aldridge put in seven.
On Monday, Corner plays Winston County in the opener at 3 p.m., Oak Grove plays Lynn at 4:15 p.m., Carbon Hill takes on Dora at 5:30 p.m. and Curry faces Meek at 6:45 p.m.
The championship game is set for 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
