In the first game, Caleb Connell earned the win for Carbon Hill, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out seven in seven innings. Laney Keeton was 3 for 4 with a run for the Bulldogs, Caleb Benson was 2 for 3 with a run and Braden Wright was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs. In the second game, Carbon Hill was held to one hit. Ty Brooks finished 1 for 3. Kaleb Lawrence took the loss, giving up four runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in 2/3 innings. ——— Jasper 7, Mortimer Jordan 5 A day after clinching the Class 5A, Area 11 championship, the Jasper Vikings closed out area play with a 7-5 win at Morris on Thursday. Jasper (22-8) built a 6-1 lead after the second inning and held off a late Mortimer Jordan rally to pick up the victory. Cam Robinson led the Jasper offense, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and three runs, Zac Durham was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, one run and two RBIs, Landon Nix was 1 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Slade Harbin was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Pacey Gillott and Ryan Willcutt each finished 1 for 3. Both Tyler Thomasson and Peyton Thomasson scored runs. Tyler Thomasson earned the win, allowing one earned run in two innings. Kaden Shelton got the save, recording the final out. Jasper hosts Hueytown at 4 p.m. Monday.
