Corner takes pair from MoJo

Jasper is off to a 2-0 start in area play following a 5-3 victory over Hayden at Valley Park on Thursday. Zac Durham had a big game at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run and four RBIs. He delivered a game-changing three-run double in the second inning. Jasper scored all five of its runs in the first two innings. Durham delivered an RBI single in the first to drive in Cam Robinson and came around to score later in the inning for a 2-1 lead. An inning later he added a double scoring Carson Gilbert, Parker Sawyer and Robinson for a 5-1 lead. Seth Davidson got the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and five walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Topher Wilson went 1 2/3 innings giving up one unearned run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Durham got the save, striking out one in one inning. At the plate, Shelton was 2 for 2, Slade Harbin and Landon Nix were both 1 for 3 with a double and Robinson scored two runs and stole three bases. Jasper won the tie-breaker game 7-3 with Ben Bonner getting the win. Tyler Thomasson led the offense, going 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Corner got a two-run home run from Brayden Rowe and held off a late rally to beat Mortimer Jordan 4-3 in their area matchup at Corner High School on Thursday. The Jackets also won the tie-breaker 8-7 in 12 innings, scoring three runs in the bottom of the final inning. In the opener, Rowe belted a home run in the second inning and the Jackets added two more runs in the third on a Dan Knowlton RBI single and an error allowing Knowlton to score for a 4-0 lead. The Blue Devils scored a run in the fifth and two in the seventh. Tanner Hayes got the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in six innings. Nolan Berger earned the save, striking out three in one inning of work. Rowe finished 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, Knowlton was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI and both Gage Lisby and Andrew Baker added hits for Corner (5-4, 1-1) / In the second game, Lisby finished 4 for 5 with six RBIs. Garrett Purvis was 3 for 4 with a run and Knowlton was 2 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. Baker got the win on the mound. Berger went seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
