Lynn edges Winston County for tournament title

Lynn’s Brandon Hill out-dueled Winston County’s Eli Edgil as the top-ranked Bears took down the Yellow Jackets 2-1 at Addison High School on Saturday, claiming the county championship in the process.

Hill allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out 13 batters in seven innings to earn the win. Edgil went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out three.

Winston County struck for a run in the first inning on Edgil’s RBI triple that scored Austin Owens.

Lynn pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Chance Majors doubled with one out and came around to score following a Lance Harris single. John Bryan singled home Harris for the game-winning run.

For Lynn (18-2), Bryan was 2 for 2 with an RBI, Harris was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI and Majors was 1 for 3 with a run.

Winston County (6-15) was led by Edgil, who was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Owens was 1 for 3 with a run and Cameron Thompson was 1 for 3.

Both teams play again on Monday. Winston County plays at Belgreen while Lynn hosts Phillips.

Phil Campbell sweeps Dora

Phil Campbell earned a pair of road wins over Dora on Saturday, beating the Bulldogs 19-2 and 11-1 in six innings.

In the opener, the third-ranked Bobcats, broke the game open in the first inning, scoring five runs. Phil Campbell also scored 10 runs in the seventh.

For Dora, Logan Fowler was 2 for 4 with a run, Boone Martin was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Elijah Pruitt was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI and Tyler Hicks was 1 for 3. Hayden Bozeman took the loss, giving up five earned runs in four innings.

In the nightcap, Dora led 1-0 after the first inning, but the Bobcats erupted for seven runs in the third to take control.

The Bulldogs finished with three hits. Fowler was 1 for 2 with a run, Jeffrey Allen was 1 for 3, Kyle Chapman was 1 for 3 and Zach Watson had an RBI.

Hicks suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, one earned, in 2 2/3 innings.

Dora (12-14) hosts Fayette County in the regular-season finale at 4 p.m. Monday. The Bulldogs travel to No. 1 Gordo in the opening round of the playoffs starting Friday at 4 p.m.
