The Literacy Council of Walker County will hold one of its biggest fundraisers of the year next Thursday.
The annual Daddy & Me Dance is set for Thursday, Feb. 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jasper Area Family Services Center, located at the old West Jasper Elementary School at 1400 19th St. West.
Admission is $5 per person ($10 for each father and daughter) and dress attire is Sunday best. Professional photography packages will be available, beginning at $10.
Girls of all ages are welcome to attend, as well as grandfathers, uncles, brothers or other male figures.
Proceeds from the dance will benefit the literacy council’s efforts to give away books at community events.
Literacy Council of Walker County coordinator Chandra Rice said the evening always serves as a time for fathers to have a memorable evening with their daughters — no moms allowed.
“It’s a great memory for the future. Kids grow up so fast,” Rice told the Daily Mountain Eagle in 2018. “It’s also a wonderful opportunity to support the literacy council.”
People may call Rice at (205) 387-0511, ext. 5792 for more information on the dance.
Rice said this is the 10th year of the Daddy & Me Dance, so there will be more giveaways of books than in year's past.
