Leeds snaps Corner’s 3-game winning streak

CORNER — The Corner Yellow Jackets’ three-game winning streak was snapped by the Leeds Greenwave in a 35-13 loss Friday night at Corner Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets held strong in the first half but the Greenwave pulled away in the third quarter to secure the victory. Leeds and Corner (4-4, 3-3) both scored on their first drives of the game, with the Yellow Jackets tying it on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Colin Daniel to Gavin Brown. The Greenwave took a 14-7 lead into the half on a 31-yard reverse by Christian Douglas with 1:32 remaining.

The second half was all Leeds. The Greenwave scored on every possession in the third quarter and the Yellow Jackets had no answers for the two-headed rushing attack of Remetrius Yelverton and Jeremiah Hunter who both went over 100 yards on the ground and had two touchdowns a piece.

Leeds out-gained Corner 313-103 in rushing yards on the night.

The Greenwave took a 35-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

But Corner finished the game on a long 12-play drive of 77 yards that ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Colin Daniel with 1:33 left.

Daniel was responsible for both of Corner’s touchdowns in the game, ending the contest with eight carries for 22 yards and completing seven of his 15 passing attempts for 111 yards. Gavin Brown had two catches for 80 yards while Tyler Trawick had three catches for 41 yards. Tommy Reed was the workhorse for the Yellow Jackets, rushing 21 times for 88 yards.

Corner travels to Center Point next Friday night in their final region game of the year and a chance to make the Class 5A Playoffs.
