John Willard “Cotton” Guthrie, 85, of Jasper, passed away September 12, 2020, at Walker Baptist Medical Center due to the COVID-19 Virus.
Graveside service will be held today, September 15, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Dr. Lloyd Stilley will officiate.
Willard was born October 1, 1934. He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a long-standing member of Jasper's First Baptist Church. Willard worked in the car business for more than 50 years, and he was with Earnest Crump Motors for 44 years before retiring where he was better known as “Cotton." In his retirement, he enjoyed his breakfast group at Deano’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Williams Guthrie; sister, Doris Elliott and brother, Joe Guthrie.
He is survived by his son, John Todd Guthrie (Melodie); sister, Maxine Wallace (Doyle); longtime companion, Billie Odom; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cotton’s First Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
