JHS coach arrested, charged with sex act with student

A volunteer volleyball coach at Jasper High School has been arrested after a student reported the coach kissed her on the mouth during a recent tournament held at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Dakoda Bhreann Mauldin, 29, of Parrish was arrested on Thursday and charged with a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19, which is a Class B Felony. Mauldin was booked into the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 12:37 p.m. Thursday and released on a $15,000 bond at 1:04 p.m.

Jasper High Athletic Director Jonathan Jordan confirmed the incident is under investigation by Trussville police.

“The Trussville Police Department is investigating alleged inappropriate behavior of a contracted volunteer coaching assistant,” Jordan said. “Since it is currently under investigation, we are not at liberty to comment further. We are, however, fully cooperating with law enforcement in this matter. Our main concern is with the well being of our student athlete and her family.”

According to an online report by The Trussville Tribune newspaper, the police report said the 13-year-old victim told law enforcement the incident happened at Hewitt-Trussville High during a volleyball tournament. The victim said Mauldin pushed her into a bathroom stall and kissed her on the mouth.

Jasper High played in a tournament at Trussville on Saturday, Sept. 19. Booking information from the JCSO confirms that as the date of the offense.

The Tribune also added the police report said Mauldin is also accused of texting the victim photos of herself and professing her “romantic love” for the victim. The victim said the coach also asked her to delete all text messages between the two of them.
