DORA – Workers installed a new sign next to Highway 78 at Horse Creek Golf Course this past week.
“Even though we have a great golf course here in Dora, there were people who didn’t realize the city owned a golf course,” Mayor Randy Stephens said. “The city council decided to build a new sign to let people know there is a beautiful golf course just over the horizon,” he said.
Word of mouth advertising has been great, according to Stephens. “Once golfers play at Horse Creek, they tell their friends, Stephens said.
Even with the word of mouth advertising, it was still troubling that people didn’t realize there was golf course in Dora, he said.
The city will add lighting so the new sign is visible at night. Stephens said the areas would be landscaped but that might have to wait until spring.
The new sign is the latest improvement made to the course that was built about 18 years ago. Last year the city replaced the old trailers being used as pro shop with a new state-of-the-art pro shop in the summer of 2017.
