Graupel falls in Walker County

Prior to lunchtime Wednesday, a wintry mix entered the state that brought rain and graupel showers.

According to the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory, graupel is a type of frozen precipitation comprised of water droplets that freeze into a small, pellet-like snow crystal.

Pictured is some graupel near Hobby Lobby in Jasper on Wednesday. The wintry mix was not expected to cause any travel issues but did cover vehicle windshields and grassy areas Wednesday.
