Dominant defense leads Dora to rout of Hanceville


DORA — The Dora Bulldogs got another dominant game from their defense led by Ronnie Waldrop and company for a 37-6 region win over Hanceville. 

The Bulldogs defense had now scored three touchdowns on the year while only giving up three. 

Dora (3-0 1-0) got on the board first at the 3:05 mark of the opening quarter as Brayden Williamson connected on a 33 yard field goal to cap a 7 play 66 yard drive and a 3-0 lead. Dora scored again quickly on its next possession.

Quarterback Logan Fowler raced 17 yards for a touchdown and a 9-0 lead after a blocked PAT. Hanceville could manage only 33 first half yards as the Bulldogs defense held the high scoring Hanceville offense in check. 

Dora would add one second quarter score after taking over at the Hanceville 33 yard line. Fowler hit Jayden McDavid with a 29 yard strike. Williamson kicked it to a 16-0 lead as the teams headed to the locker room.

Fowler would strike again at the 7:44 mark of the third quarter, finding Dee Wilkerson down the seam for a 41 yard score and a 23-0 edge. 

Hanceville (1-2 0-1) finally got on the board on the ensuing possession as Zach Campbell scored on a 9 yard run. The two point conversion failed, leaving Hanceville trailing 23-6.

Dora’s next score was set up by Jamarcus Goodman, who had another huge game with 200 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Fowler would account for his fourth score of the night (2 rushing and 2 passing) with a 1 yard run. Williamson kicked it to 30-7 headed to the final frame. Fowler ended his night with 138 total yards. The final score came with Dora defense standing strong facing a Hanceville fourth and goal at the Bulldogs 7 yard line.

Bulldog quarterback Bo Joles was stripped and Dora’s Zach Watson scooped the fumble and raced 85 yards down the right sideline for a lineman’s dream touchdown with :07 left to play. Williamson capped a final of 37-6 with the PAT. 

Dora 3-0 for the first time since 2012 will host Oneonta next Friday in another key region tilt.
