A family-friendly event will take place in downtown Jasper this Saturday.
The Central Alabama Rodders Society (CARS) will host a cruise-in on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. downtown at the Jasper square.
Jasper Fire Chief Alan Clark, a member of CARS, said the event serves as an opportunity for car enthusiasts to gather, and the general public can look at the vehicles for free.
The CARS cruise-in is typically held at the Jasper Mall, but event organizers approached city leaders about hosting it downtown.
The cruise-in will be a recurring event in downtown Jasper on the first Saturday of each month from May through September to lead up to a car show in October.
There will be 50/50 tickets at the cruise-in, with half of the proceeds going to Positive About Down Syndrome, an organization for parents of Down syndrome children to share their stories.
Door prizes will also be given away.
To accommodate the event, road closures will occur from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 2nd and 3rd avenues, between 18th and 19th streets.
This is the 14th year the Central Alabama Rodders Society has shared its love of automobile preservation and restoration.
"We're excited about it," Alan Clark said of the event. "The weather is looking like it's going to be beautiful."
