CORNER — The Dora Bulldogs second-half comeback attempt fell short on a late fourth-quarter interception as the Bulldogs dropped a 27-13 decision to Corner on the road Friday night.
Corner, which has won the last three in the series, held a 12-0 halftime lead after a 10-yard Joshua Myrick touchdown run and a 3-yard run by Colin Daniel.
Dora’s Dee Wilkerson set the Bulldogs up at the Yellow Jackets 5-yard line with a 60-yard punt return. Unfortunately for Dora they could not cash in their best opportunity for first-half points.
Corner (2-3) added to its lead on the second possession of the second half when Daniel capped a 4-play, 55-yard drive with a 15-yard run. Myrick ran in a two-point conversion to extend the Jackets lead to 20-0.
Dora (3-2) finally got its offense in gear with consecutive touchdown drives. Logan Fowler hit Wilkerson with a 35-yard strike at the 1:39 mark of the third quarter. Brayden Williamson added the PAT.
On the Bulldogs’ next possession, Fowler found Jayden McDavid for a 13-yard touchdown to draw Dora within a score at 20-13 with 7:52 left to play. The Bulldogs defense forced a Corner three and out on the next set of downs. Dora took over at the 44-yard line. On first down, Drake Wallace picked off a Bulldogs pass at the Jackets 34-yard line to end the Dora threat.
Daniel — who finished the game with 167 yards rushing on 14 carries, and 68 yards passing — sealed the win with a 44-yard touchdown run for the final margin of 27-13.
For Corner, Tommy Reed picked up 63 yards on 13 carries while Myrick added 35 yards on eight carries. Gavin Brown was the top receiver, catching four passes for 43 yards.
Both teams return to region play next Friday as Dora travels to Fultondale and Corner hosts Lincoln.
