Carl Works

Carl Works, 85, of Carbon Hill, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Walker Baptist Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at Scott Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at 11 a.m., with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Gary Key will officiate. The family requests that masks please be worn and to social distance as much as possible at the graveside.

Carl was born in Fulton, Mississippi, and moved to Kansas, Alabama, with his family when he was 4 years old. He married Betty Jean Miskelley and had two children, Darrell and Pam. Carl loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles, he was a proud member of the H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and loved riding until he was no longer able. He loved making people smile by passing out $2 bills and $1 coins to both adults and children.

He spent his mornings at Jack’s “Round Table” with his friends and former UMWA co-workers. Most people in Carbon Hill knew Carl because he spent his entire days driving his little red Chevy Spark all around Carbon Hill, stopping to visit friends and businesses all around the Walker County area, wearing his beloved Harley hat.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Miskelley Works; daughter, Pamela Jean Works Lee; grandson, Jason Darrell Works; parents, Audie Due Works and Emmie Elverta Jackson Works; and siblings, Junior Works, Serene Works Cody, Christine Works Dodd and Halovee Works East.

He is survived by his son, Darrell Works (Teresa); five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Mary Dodd Bonner; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Kansas Baptist Church where he was a member.
