Bobby Gene Evans, 78, of Oakman, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at his residence.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens. Mark Howell will officiate.
Bobby Gene Evans was born and died a resident of Oakman. He was born on May 17, 1943, and was taken into his heavenly home on April 22, 2022. Bobby grew up attending the school in Oakman, and was drafted into the military shortly after to become a field medic and spend two active years in the service. He was then honorably discharged on August 19, 1971, which was followed by 2 years of inactive service. While fighting in the Vietnam War, he acquired two Purple Hearts due to being shot while helping others and a Bronze Star for his heroic actions and bravery.
After years in the service, he got married to his sweetheart on August 28, 1970, with whom he spent 50 years of marriage before her passing. He also became a jack of all trades which included coal mining, welding, being an electrician, and finished off with 15 years in the Jasper school system as a janitor. Bobby spent most of his years attending Midway Church of Christ where he was a faithful member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Evans; parents, David and Marie Evans; grandparents, Robert and Docie Cannon and Solomon and Margaret Evans; and in-laws, Alec and Verna Randolph.
He is survived by his children, Katrinka Evans (Rebekah) and Kristy Medders (Chris); grandchildren, Trace Medders, Ella Medders and Kennidi Medders; sibling, Huel Evans (Janet); special friend, Laura Pitts Wisdom; and special dog, Susie.
