The Bevill State Bears ended the 2021 season in top fashion on the road Friday night, earning both a sweep of the Enterprise State Boll Weevils and their fifth-consecutive victory, 89-81, in Enterprise.
CJ Beckham led the Bears with 28 points, with Martez Brown following with 18 points. Carterius Evans scored 15 points and Jervae Peters had 12 points.
Bevill State led at halftime, 44-41 and outscored Enterprise State 45-40 in the second half to take the 89-81 win.
The Bears, which entered the Feb. 19 contest against Snead State on the road with a 4-10 record, ends the year at 9-10.
The team featured just four sophomores, Brown — the state leader in rebounds who is also featured in the Top 10 in the ACCC in blocks and field goal percentage — along with Peters — one of the state's top scoring threats, Beckham and Eugene Leonard.
The Bears' freshmen saw crucial growth throughout the year, including Oakman's Skylar Hice — ranked third in three-point shooting, Evans — who worked his way into the starting lineup to become one of the team's top inside presences, and forwards Camron Scott and Cornelius Grant.
