Area softball tournaments moving due to threat of severe weather


The threat of severe weather on Tuesday has urged several hosting school to move their area tournament to later in the week, when more favorable conditions will not hinder play.

Class 4A, Area 8 tournament host Dora defeated Indian Springs 15-0 on Monday to advance to the semifinal against Oak Grove. Results of the Bulldogs’ victory in the opener, as well as against Oak Grove and the day of the championship game will be published in a future edition of the Eagle.

The Jasper Vikings, host of the Class 6A, Area 10 tournament, announced a change to the date of play from Tuesday to Wednesday. The times will remain the same, with Minor and Jackson-Olin playing in the opener and the Vikings facing the winner at noon. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m.

The Class 3A, Area 10 tournament at Oakman has been moved from Tuesday and Thursday to Thursday and Friday. Oakman will face Tarrant at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Carbon Hill against Winfield at 3 p.m. The title game will take place on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Class 2A, Area 10 tournament at Sumiton Christian has moved play to Wednesday and Thursday, with Sumiton Christian opening with Addison at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by Winston County against Cold Springs at 1 p.m. The championship game will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The Class 4A, Area 11 tournament at Curry will be played in its entirety on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. with Hanceville facing Good Hope and concluding the tournament title game at 2:30 p.m.

The Class 5A, Area 12 tournament at Hayden has been moved to Thursday and Friday, with Corner and Cordova playing at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Marion County has moved the Class 1A, Area 12 tournament to Wednesday through Friday. Lynn will face Brilliant at 12 p.m., while Meek faces Hubbertville at 3 p.m.

The championship game will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
