Applebee's could break ground in two weeks

Applebee's will be opening sooner — rather than later — in Jasper.

Jasper Mayor David O'Mary confirmed to the Daily Mountain Eagle on Tuesday evening that he was informed by Applebee's leaders that bids for construction are in and workers could break ground on the restaurant in two weeks.

O'Mary said construction is estimated to take four months.

News of Applebee's coming to Jasper was announced in June 2019, but it has taken some time for the company to move forward on the project.

The restaurant chain is expected to hire 130 employees. Those interested in applying can text APPLE to 205-512-9119.

According to Wikipedia, Applebee's concept focuses on casual dining, with mainstream American dishes such as salads, chicken, pasta, burgers, and "riblets" — which is considered Applebee's signature dish. All Applebee's restaurants feature a bar area and serve alcoholic beverages.

“It’s going to be a tremendous draw to our city,” O’Mary said in June. “This will bring a substantial number of jobs, and I really believe it will be a big draw from surrounding counties.” He said it will also be a sign to others in retail that Jasper has a vibrant market.

Huddle House is expected to open near Applebee's this year as well.
