Let's clean out the notebook...

It seems this year that Christmas has arrived faster than anyone expected. Thanksgiving being a week later has bumped everything to a faster pace – which has made me appreciate each Christmas moment this year more than I have in the past. more

The Daily Mountain Eagle has reported on numerous fires in its nearly 150-year history and on a couple of occasions it has been the site of one.

This just came in Wednesday afternoon as I started writing: According to Robbie Dickerson, the Holiday Toy Drive is needing an additional $3,000, by Monday at the latest, in order to help bring Christmas to 110 children on Dec. 14. more

I’m always looking for a good deal, so like most of you I scour the thrift stores, yard sales and social media for things I am not willing to spend a lot of money on – clothing being the main item. more
Sundays used to be special days with my grandmother. Each Sabbath, the woman we called “Mama” taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, then filled her dinner table with a buffet of Southern cooking, fried chicken or pot roast, chicken and dumplings and collards, making certain every family member had a favorite on the table. more

Burnwell Bible Church of God was overflowing in November 1990 for the funeral of singer/songwriter Charles "Rusty" Goodman. Nearly 200 people packed the church and another 25 watched outside on a closed-circuit television.
