Representatives from the Kiwanis Club of Jasper and the Rotary Club of Jasper work on refurbishing the F4 Phantom Jet in front of the Marvin Lee Ferguson VFW Post 4850/Jasper off Highway 118. The jet was loaned out to Jasper in 1994 by a museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, at the encouragement of Joey Sanders of Sanders Aviation in Jasper. The plane will be rededicated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, after that day's Jasper Veterans Parade. Jessica Sanders Walker said the plane is being pressure washed, sanded and painted, with stencils and art to be added on to restore it to original condition. New pea gravel and new lighting is also being added to the site. The VFW and Sanders Aviation have also helped with the renovation, as well as members of the 106 Tactical Reconnoissance Squad who once flew it. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available at the rededication, and youngsters will be allowed to sit in the cockpit area. The Alabama Air National Guard will be in attendance for the rededication.
