A West Jasper woman died in a structure fire that consumed her home Friday afternoon.

Lola Satterfield, 74, was pronounced dead around 4 p.m. Friday after being rushed to Walker Baptist Medical Center.

Firefighters and police responded to the emergency call around 2:45 p.m.

The fire completely engulfed Satterfield’s home on 23rd Street West off Martin Luther King Drive.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe, whose deputies also responded to the fire, said Satterfield likely died from smoke inhalation. However, her body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy, he said. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Representatives from the Jasper Fire Department, the Jasper Police Department and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office were each on the scene.

Poe said all of the responders to the scene should be commended for their quick action.

“The Jasper Fire Department did an excellent job of getting her out of the house,” he said.

Poe said EMS workers tried to resuscitate Satterfied en route to Walker Baptist.
