Before it slips your mind, we want to remind you there’s a runoff election Tuesday.

There’s just one local race on the ballot, but it’s one of the most important races in Walker County over the past few years.

The runoff election will decide who the Republican nominee is for Walker County sheriff. Both men — Jim Underwood and J.C. Poe — have many years of law enforcement experience, and it’s important that we, as residents of Walker County, take a few minutes of our time to go to the polls and cast a ballot.

State officials are expecting about 5 percent of the state’s registered voters to turn out Tuesday. And that’s sad.

Let’s make sure that number is much higher in Walker County. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
