The event, which coincides with the filming of the locally produced zombie-inspired movie “Thr33 Days Dead” and a docu-drama about the movie from the Syfy Channel and True Entertainment, will begin at 4 p.m. at the courthouse square.
The cost to participate in the run — which is just a little more than a mile in length — is $20 for those 18 and older; $10 for anyone under 18. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.
There will also be a kids dash, which costs $10.
The run isn’t your typical run that’s held in Jasper. This one includes several obstacles that participants have to maneuver around throughout the course.
And then there’s the zombies.
Event organizers are registering the first 50 people who want to serves as “zombies” during the run. The zombies will be placed throughout the course and attempt to grab three flags that each runner will be wearing. When a runner loses all three flags, they are disqualified from winning the event; however, they can still finish the course if they want to.
Registration forms for the run are available at the Memorial Park Natatorium, or you can register beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday.
To participate as a zombie, you can pick up registration forms at the natatroium or at one of the four local gyms that are helping sponsor the event. They are CrossFit 205, Deb’s Fitness, Hard Body Fitness and Inspire Fitness.
If you participate as a zombie, you’re asked to come already dressed as a zombie. Makeup artists will be on-hand to help touch-up any zombie makeup that’s needed.
The day will kick off at 2 p.m. with plenty of activities on the square for kids, organizers said.
Jasper City Council member Jennifer Williams Smith is among the many who have already registered to participate in the run, which will benefit the Walker County Arts Alliance.
“I’m looking forward to running (and being chased) through our beautiful downtown in a first-time event that promotes community while supporting the arts,” Smith said. “It also gets us all moving. It’s going to be fun, and I encourage everyone to load up the family and join us.”
