“We have been working for a year with the company to get this store in Dora,” Stephens said. “Bottom line – Dollar General is coming to Dora. It’s been an ongoing process of negotiations since about last June.”
He said that resident Bobby Busby, who owned the property, was instrumental in the negotiations, as well as his son and city clerk Marcy Brown.
Stephens said the grand opening is scheduled for Aug. 24, if weather allows construction to continue on schedule.
The store will not be a full grocery, but will stock basic necessities that residents in that area had previously had to drive or walk out to the highway to purchase, as well as clothes and other items.
The location borders a large residential area, meaning that many residents who may not have transportation will be able to walk to the store.
“I feel like it’s going to be in a great location,” Stephens said. “It is going to be a great thing for the city and its residents.”
