A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 1604 Fourth Avenue in Jasper. Please stop by and celebrate our Mothers life.
Wilhite was born in Jasper and graduated from Walker County High School in 1951 where she was selected Miss Walker County High. She went on to attend Florence State Teachers College. Throughout her business career, she reached many individual goals. With World Book Encyclopedia she attained “Flying Circus,” a top achievement with Field Enterprises Corporation. In her later career life she worked for the American Heart Association in Birmingham as a coordinator.
Wilhite was preceded in death by her parents, James Carl Burton and Clara Lovelady Burton of Jasper; as well as the father of her children, Kaye Don Salmon of Jasper and her husband, Julius E. Davenport of Birmingham.
She is survived by her spouse, R. Gene Wilhite of Tuscaloosa; her children, Kathi Salmon Lucas (John) of Cupertino, California, Kaye Don Salmon Jr. of Jasper, and Traci Salmon McLeod (Scott) of Suwanee, Georgia; grandchildren, Wesley James Lucas of Eugene, Oregon and Alexis Conner McLeod and Hayden Stewart McLeod of Suwanee; one brother, James Carl Burton Jr. (Anita) of Nauvoo; and her best friends and partners in crime, Martha Ford Ceriani, Bettye Winters Floyd and Anne Deason Hoell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
