The Bankhead House and Heritage Center will be hosting “Jazz in the Park” Saturday evening.

The free event is a collaboration of Magic City Smooth Jazz and Walker County Arts Alliance. The concert was originally set to conclude Art in the Park on May 10 but was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

“This is going to be a night of feel-good music. It’s so easy to listen to. It’s hard to not love it,” said Pat Putman, executive coordinator of WCAA.

Birmingham natives Lauren “Sassy” Brown and James Crumb will be performing.

Brown, a blues singer, counts Bonnie Raitt, Koko Taylor and Etta James among her influences.

Crumb, a saxophonist, has performed across the east coast as a headliner and opening act.

His most memorable performances were opening for Donnie McKlirland, Vickie Winans, Cee Cee Winans and Freddie Jackson.

Jazz in the Park will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday in the amphitheater. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The concert is made possible by grants from the Walker Area Community Foundation, Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
