A little more than $21,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society during Friday’s Relay for Life event held at Walker High School, officials said.

That amount follows the more than $57,000 that had been raised prior to Friday’s event, said Becky Rigsby, one of the coordinators for this year’s Relay for Life.

In all, almost $79,000 has been raised for cancer research, she said.

“We are expecting several teams to still turn in their fundraising money and a few sponsorships to still come in,” Rigsby said.

Despite the end of this year’s Relay for Life, fundraising continues.

“The fundraising season doesn’t end for 2014 until August, so any donations received until that time will be credited to the 2014 season,” Rigsby said.

If you would like to make a donation, you can mail it to: Relay for Life Walker-Jasper, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 514, Jasper, AL 35502.
