Johnny traveled all over the United States spreading his love of music for anybody who would listen. He worked with artists such as George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Tanya Tucker, Faron Young, Jack Greene, Jimmy Martin and Cliff Parker. His songs such as “Bama Walk of Fame” showed his love of Alabama football and their coach, Bear Bryant. Also, “One of God’s Chosen Ones” was written to commemorate his love of Hank Williams Sr. These songs are on plaques at Bear Bryant Museum and Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery.

Already the world seems a little darker and a lot quieter.

Gray was preceded in death by his parents, John Newton Gray and Elvie Campbell of Berry; and siblings, Jean Taylor, Betty Strobel, Willa Dean Gray and Jimmy R. Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Gray; three sons, Darrell Gray and his wife, Andrea, Johnny W. Gray Jr. and his wife, Trina, of Linwood, North Carolina, and James E. Jent and his family; grandchildren, Austin and London Gray and Nicholas, Darian, Emily, Jacob and Brady Gray; and one great-grandson, Jaxon; one brother, James E. Taylor; and three sisters, Bobbie J. Sanders, Evelyn Cook and Jean Styles.
