Eloise Bland Alvis, better known as Ellie Alvis, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

Visitation will be today, April 4, 2014, from 11 a.m. until noon at Fern Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be today, April 4, 2014, at noon at Fern Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Joe Daniels will officiate. Burial will follow at Colburn Cemetery.

Alvis was born on Aug. 16, 1926, in Nashville, Tenn., a daughter of James Pink Bland and Flossie Boner Bland. She was a resident of Eldridge for the past 30 years; she got her pilot’s license at the age of 15 and loved to fly. She was a flight attendant in her early years and then became a switchboard operator for the Birmingham News and Nashville and Walker Regional hospitals.

She was the widow of Richard Alvis, better known as Mr. R. E. Alvis, and was a member of Fern Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Morse Craig; and one sister, Shirley Bland.

Survivors include one son, Chuck Craig and his wife, Jacci, of Biloxi, Miss.; two grandchildren, Chad Craig and his wife, Brooke, and Samantha Craig; one great-grandchild and one on the way; and other relatives.
