Curry and Sumiton Christian solidified their No. 1 rankings with strong performances in the Gulf Shores Classic Tournament during Spring Break.

Curry placed second in the 60-team tournament that ended Wednesday, knocking off Sparkman — the No. 1 team in Class 6A — along the way. The Yellow Jackets lost to Huntsville 2-0 in the championship game.

Curry went 9-1 in the three-day event. The Yellow Jackets also ousted Sumiton Christian in the tournament semifinals, edging the Class 1A Eagles 4-3.

Sumiton Christian defeated Cordova 7-6 in the event before falling to Curry.

Both teams have held the No. 1 ranking since the first poll of the season.

Cordova is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A, falling one spot after a loss to previously No. 6-ranked Winfield last week. The Pirates are now ranked No. 5

Lynn remains No. 2 in Class 1A. The Bears dropped their last game to Carbon Hill. Defending 1A champion Parrish received votes in the poll.

Two area baseball teams are ranked.

Oakman is No. 6 in Class 2A. The Wildcats defeated Cold Springs twice in the last week, outscoring the Eagles 22-2. Oakman plays at Sulligent on April 1.

Addison fell to No. 9 in Class 1A following a three-game losing streak.

In Class 3A, Cordova finished just out of the rankings after sweeping area games over Winston County.
