Curry, Sumiton Christian softball teams remain No. 1 in poll

One week after opening the season ranked No. 1, both Curry and Sumiton Christian held on to their top ranking in the second Alabama Sports Writers Association poll of the season.

Curry (15-2) is the top-ranked team in Class 5A after going undefeated in the Red and Blue Classic over the weekend and blanking Vestavia Hills 3-0 on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets host Parrish at 4:30 p.m. today and play at Winfield on Friday.

Sumiton Christian (11-4) is the No. 1 team in Class 1A. The Eagles held off a late rally with a 9-7, eight-inning win at No. 2 Lynn on Tuesday. The Eagles followed with a 17-8 victory over Dora on Wednesday. Sumiton Christian rallied from an early 7-2 deficit in the game.

The Eagles host Oak Grove at 4 p.m. today.

Lynn (22-2) held on its No. 2 ranking in Class 1A. The Bears only losses have come to Gardendale and Sumiton Christian. The Bears play at Carbon Hill at 5 p.m. today.

Defending Class 1A state champion Parrish (1-2) remained in the poll at No. 8. The Tornadoes' losses have come to Curry and Sumiton Christian.

In Class 3A, Cordova (7-6-1) jumped three spots to No. 5. The Blue Devils play at No. 6 Winfield at 4:30 p.m. today.

In the baseball rankings, Oakman (14-3) remained at No. 6 in Class 2A after sweeping a double header against Carbon Hill and knocking off Curry. The Wildcats hosts Good Hope in a double header beginning at 4 p.m. today,

Addison (10-3) is the No. 3 team in Class 1A. The Bulldogs bring a two-game losing streak in today's home double header vs. Decatur Heritage. The first game starts at 4 p.m. today.
