The Equines Assisting Special Individuals (EASI) Therapeutic Riding Center located in Boldo is seeking volunteers for its spring and summer sessions.

“Being a 501c3 nonprofit, we utilize volunteers from our community in every field of our operation, from clerical, horse care and in-lesson work to barn chores and maintenance,” said Melissa Searcy, EASI’s executive director. “It generally takes at least three volunteers per student when the students first begin to ride or learn to trot. In 2013, our volunteers logged over 5,000 hours of service with EASI, and they are the backbone of our program.”

Searcy said volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to serve in lesson work, however, EASI’s Barnmice Program also utilizes younger volunteers to work at the center to help with routine chores, such as caring for the horses and helping to run items back and forth during lessons.

“There is a place at EASI for everyone to serve and be a part of our community, and we welcome all regardless of horse experience” Searcy said. “So we hope everyone will come join us at our volunteer orientation being held later this month to see where they fit perfectly at EASI.”

The EASI volunteer orientation will be held Thursday, March 27, from noon until 2 p.m. at the EASI Therapeutic Riding Center located at 242 Summerville Road in Jasper. For more information, call 205-387-7486 or visit easitrc.org.
