Opal Lee Banks Taylor, 78, of Calhoun, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be today, Feb. 23, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Banks and the Rev. Joel Dupree will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will also be held Monday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at New Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in Jasper. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

She was born in Jasper on Dec. 23, 1935, daughter of the late Isaac Wilson Banks and Myrtie Jane Banks. She was of the Christian faith and a Baptist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Davis Taylor; sister, Hassie Lee Thornton; and brothers, Lloyd Banks, Dalton Banks and William Banks.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Freeman and her husband, Ricky, of Calhoun; son, Randy Yates and his wife, Lori, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Dorothy Lee Clemmons of Bremen; grandchildren, Whitney Yates, Ashley Elmore, Megan Laug, Terry Freeman and Shannon Freeman; great grandchildren, Aurora Elmore, Christopher Turner, Serenity Turner, Summer Freeman, Katilyn Freeman and Jaxon Memphis Brown; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
