Michael Bridges had 23 points and Aaron Morris added 20 as the Vikings hammered Hayden 91-60 at Songer Gym to earn the 5A, Area 14 crown.

Next up for Walker (17-10) is a home sub-region playoff game against Parker on Friday.

Parker dropped a narrow 49-47 decision to Wenonah in the 5A, Area 13 Tournament championship game.

On Monday, Hayden (11-12) kept the game close for a quarter. The teams were tied 19-19 going into the second quarter.

Walker opened up a 10-point lead in the second quarter with three different players connecting on 3-pointers and Bridges adding six points. The Vikings were up 41-31 at the half and cruised from there.

Morris got the hot hand for Walker in the third quarter, making three 3-pointers and scoring 13 points. Walker held a commanding 69-48 lead going into the final quarter.

Morris, Bridges and Riley Graham each made the All-Tournament Team.

“This means a lot because every time we hit the floor, we’ve been at a disadvantage size-wise,” McDuffie said. “We got it done. I think it’s big for this group to call themselves area champions.”

Walker knocked down 11 3-pointers in the game.

Jonathan McCants had 13 points for Walker, Graham added 12 and Marlon Oliver put in eight. Kenyatta Woods had three points and 10 assists. The Vikings had 20 steals in the game.
