Lester “Tater” Phillips, 95, of Empire, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Ridgewood Health Care in Jasper. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of New Canaan Baptist Church in Empire and a member of Maryland Masonic Lodge #783 in Sipsey.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, from 10 until 11 a.m. at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Phillip Starnes will officiate. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens.

Phillips was preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Phillips; parents, R.D. and Pearlie Phillips; brother, Doyle Phillips and sister, Pauline Porter.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Kathlene Cordell Phillips; son, Jimmy C. Phillips and wife Regina of Sumiton; daughter-in-law, Nancy J. Phillips of Empire; grandchildren, Anthony Phillips, Susan Watts (Jay) and Stephanie Taylor (Bryan); great-grandchildren, Mason and Madison Taylor and Hannah, Abigail and Harper Watts; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
