Walker got off to a slow start. Mortimer Jordan led 14-8 after the opening quarter.
The Vikings finally got going in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 23-13 for a 31-27 lead. Walker pulled away from there. The Vikings led 57-37 after three quarters.
For Walker (13-7, 6-0), Michael Bridges led the team with 13 points, both Aaron Morris and Ja’Ray McElrath had 11 points, Brandon Thursby added 10, Jonathan McCants had nine and Riley Graham put in eight.
Walker won its final three region games by a total of 147 points, beating Curry 102-18 and Hayden 88-44 leading into Thursday's game.
Walker plays again on Jan. 24 at Tuscaloosa County, which is ranked No. 6 in Class 6A.
Walker 53, Mortimer Jordan 40
Walker used a big second quarter to take control of Mortimer Jordan in a 53-40 road win over the Blue Devils on Thursday.
The Vikings (11-7, 5-1) trailed 8-6 after the opening quarter, but Walker outscored Mortimer Jordan 24-13 in the second quarter for a 30-21 lead. The Vikings pushed the lead to 43-31 after three quarters.
The win leaves Walker and Hayden tied atop the Class 5A, Area 14 standings. Both teams finished 5-1 in region play.
For the Vikings, Madisyn Hood had 17 points, Mary Kate Harrell added 10, Anna Claire Harris had eight while Sidney Cooper, Shannie Johnson and Annalee Stephens each scored six.
Oakman 69, Oak Grove 60
Oakman moved above the .500 mark for the season, beating Class 4A Oak Grove 69-60 at Oakman High School on Thursday night.
Case Key had a double-double for the Wildcats, with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Purvis Coger added 13 points and eight boards, Ashton Gay had 10 points and Hall Hastings had nine points and 14 rebounds.
Oakman (11-10) trailed 14-12 after the opening quarter, but rallied for a 30-29 halftime lead. The Wildcats went ahead for good in the third quarter and led 52-45 going into the final period.
Lamar County travels to Oakman for an area showdown today.
Oakman’s JV boys team fell to 8-5 on the season with a 47-43 loss to Oak Grove.
For the Wildcats, Mason Millwood had 15 points and Collin Woods had 14.
