James Earnest “Hank/Dean/Pawpaw” West, 84, of Jasper, passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Walker Baptist Medical Center. He was born on January 4, 1930.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from 11 a.m. until noon at the First United Methodist Church in Jasper.

A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Hope Kitchen.

West was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Ferguson; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Y.U. West Sr.; sister, Velma West Bishop; brother, Young U. West Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Charles C. Bell and Lattues G. Bishop.

He is survived by his son, Christopher A. Akins of Jasper; grandchildren, Cliff R. Akins, Nick A. Akins and Secilly L. Akins; great-grandchildren, Skylar S. Akins and Parker G. Akins; sister, Mary Kathleen Bell; sister-in-law, Juanita B. West; nephews, Scott West, Eric West, Kevin West and Shaun West; nieces, Barbara B. Williams, Charlotte B. Owens, Betty B. Wallace and Linda Bell, also many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews; and his brothers in Christ, including members of the Wednesday night men’s group.
