Jasper firefighters were called out just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday to a reported structure fire at Westfork Apartments on 8th Street Northwest just off Alabama Highway 5.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke pouring out of a building made up of eight apartments, Jasper Fire Chief David Clark said Thursday.

Clark said firefighters began an aggressive interior attack and contained the fire to the unit where the fire started.

Firefighters were able to contain the damage to the one unit, but other units in the building sustained minor smoke and water damage, Clark said.

“My guys did a great job in preventing what could have been a major incident involving all eight apartments,” Clark said.

No injuries were reported.

Clark said an investigation determined the fire accidentally began in the apartment’s kitchen.
