Then the Bulldogs started bombing away from 3-point range — and they didn’t stop.
Addison connected on eight 3-pointers — including four in the first quarter — as the Bulldogs earned their second win over Meek this season, beating the Tigers 59-43 at Meek High School.
Addison’s John Everett opened the game with a 3-pointer, and scored eight points in the first quarter. Ronnie Williams and Kaleb Estill followed suit, each connecting on one long-range shot in the opening quarter.
The Bulldogs (4-3) trailed 8-7 after a Scott Irving basket at the 4:45 mark of the opening quarter. Addison responded with an 11-3 spurt behind baskets from Everett and a pair of scores by Tony Brown.
Addison led 18-11 after the first quarter.
The Bulldogs quickly padded their lead with a 9-0 run to open the second quarter. Estill and Jake Bryson knocked down 3-pointers during the run.
Addison took a commanding 34-14 lead at the half and Meek got within single digits just once in the second half.
The Bulldogs’ offense went cold in the third quarter with the team scoring only six points — with five coming from Williams.
Meek cut the Addison lead to 40-30 at the end of the third quarter.
Addison quickly took command of the game with Estill scoring consecutive baskets, Zack Anders scoring four points and Williams hitting the last of his four 3-pointers on the night.
Estill finished with 15 points for Addison, Williams added 13 and Everett had 10.
Meek’s Ty Neal single-handedly kept the Tigers in the game, with a game-high 22 points. He made six 3-pointers while the rest of the team combined to make just six shots from the field. Addison hosts Falkville today while Meek plays at Berry on Thursday.
Addison 53, Meek 35
Cali Brewer had 16 points and Kayla Pruitt added 11 as the Addison girls earned a convincing 53-35 victory over Meek on Monday.
Addison jumped out to a double-digit, first-half lead and made it stand. The Bulldogs were up 29-19 at the half and they took a 42-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sumiton Christian 71, Brilliant 29
Sumiton Christian jumped out to a big lead early and cruised to a rout of Brilliant on the road Monday.
The Eagles (8-3, 2-1) led 24-11 after one quarter and 48-21 at the half. Sumiton Christian allowed just eight points in the second half. Vann Lovelady paced Sumiton Christian with 19 points while DeMonte Hobbs had 17 and Josh Yates put in 11.
Sumiton Christian plays at Cordova today.
Brilliant 44, Sumiton Christian 41
Sumiton Christian suffered an area loss in a tight game at Brilliant on Monday. The Eagles (8-3, 1-2), led 9-7 after the opening quarter, but trailed 21-18 at the half and 31-27 after three quarters. For Sumiton Christian, Kendell Hamm had 21 points and Anna Fitzgerald put in 11.
